Former First Deputy Speaker Madalitso Kazombo laid to rest in Kasungu

Former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Kasungu East, Madalitso Kazombo, has been laid to rest at Vikuyu Estate in the area of Senior Chief Dr Kaomba in Kasungu District, amid eulogies calling on others to emulate the life he lived.

People from all walks of life gathered at the estate to escort the remains of the fallen Malawi Congress Party (MCP) iconic politician to his final resting place.

The Sixth President of Malawi and MCP President, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, said the party has lost a member who was fully dedicated and upheld the party’s core values, calling others emulate the same.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Sameer Suleman described Kazombo as a fearless leader who had a rare ability to calm heated debates in the August House during his tenure as Deputy Speaker.

He played an active role during the 2014–2019 Parliament, where he served on several key committees, including Trade and Tourism, Transport and Public Works, and Local Authorities and he delivered,” said Suleman.

Meanwhile, a family member Dr Kent Mphepo described the late Kazombo as a blessing to the family, calling his death untimely.

“He was a blessing to the family and a role model to many young people in the country. His departure is very worrisome, especially as he has left behind three children who now need our care,” added Dr Mphepo.

Born in 1979, Kazombo succumbed to asthma on 8 January 2026 and is survived by a wife and three children.

Kazombo became Member of Parliament for Kasungu East in 2014 and reclaimed the seat in 2019, when he was also appointed First Deputy Speaker of Parliament. He lost the seat during the 16 September 2025 parliamentary elections.
