Community Radios Key in EU Malawi Campaign

European Union Ambassador Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi has described community radios as key partners in the Growing Malawi Together campaign, saying apart from being trusted and accessible by communities they amplify community voices.

Aristi Gaztelumendi said this in Lilongwe during a two-day workshop that attracted 12 community radio partners in the campaign under the Strategic Communication Support Programme (SCSP), implemented by Particip in partnership with the EU Delegation to Malawi.

He said the EU–Malawi partnership is delivering real, visible results for people across the country, in line with shared interests and that community radio is central to bringing these results closer to citizens.

“From energy and infrastructure to jobs and opportunities for young people, this is about real impact in everyday lives. And it’s not just about speaking, it’s about listening, engaging, and ensuring this partnership reflects the priorities of Malawians,” he added.

During the workshop, Kasungu Community Radio in the Central Region and Chanco Community Radio in the Southern Region were named the best performing radio stations in the campaign since 2024. Their role has been to produce radio jingles in local languages, highlighting the initiatives and airing them on radio.

Chanco Community Radio Station Manager Gracious Mulinga commended the EU for partnering with community radios, expressing their continued commitment to ensure the communities they serve are more sensitized and encouraged to participate in the campaign.

The workshop created a platform for reflection on the implementation of the Growing Malawi Together campaign, sharing experiences from recent programming, and strengthening coordination for future collaboration with the EU.
